Native camera apps often launch their own QR readers with tracking, ads, or forced account sign-ins. This tool runs entirely in your browser — no app installs, no tracking, no data collection. Your camera stream stays on your device, decoded locally frame by frame.
QR codes are the most common 2D format — they hold up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters, support error correction, and can encode URLs, Wi-Fi credentials, contact cards, and plain text. EAN-13 and UPC-A are the standard retail product codes found on grocery items. Code 128 is common in logistics and inventory. Data Matrix and Aztec are used in industrial and aerospace contexts. PDF417 appears on driver's licenses and boarding passes. The scanner recognizes all of them.
QR codes are opaque — you can't tell what a link points to just by looking. Malicious QR codes (called 'quishing') can redirect to phishing pages, trigger app downloads, or exploit URL schemes. This scanner mitigates the risk by displaying the full decoded URL before you click, and disabling the Open button for non-http(s) schemes. Always preview the URL, watch for look-alike domains, and never enter credentials on a site you reached via an unexpected QR code.
Because decoding runs on your device, there's no upload wait, no rate limit, and no server-side trace of what you scanned. The engine decodes frames in 20–50ms on modern phones, so detection feels instant. The scanner works in every modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and remains functional offline after first load. Camera access requires HTTPS — file-based scanning works even on HTTP.
